The only way to describe Bryce’s interface is “a kid’s box of toys”. I have been with Bryce now since Bryce 3D – too long! But now, after a couple of weeks of actually using the program, I have to confess that I enjoy it very, very much. As an example the user interface:ĭefinitely some simarlarities! I admit, I disliked the Vue interface at first. The university provides a mechanism for me to look at and *play* with all sorts of toys and that is where I encountered Vue 8. Running a computer centre means that I have access to wonderful programs used in the training of the medical students. Medical students have a lot to do with anatomy and detailed data about human physiology. Working in my “real” life I run the computer centre for the students of the medical faculty of a big university in South Africa. In a nutshell the title of this posting says it all… “Vue 8 – what Bryce 7 *should* have been”. I have been looking at Vue 8 (formerly Vue Esprit and now available in 11 different versions/packages) and I am impressed with what I see. Rendering optimization - we will look at those areas in Vue that cause longer render times, and will discuss ways to create more render-friendly scenes.I feel completely unashamed to say that I have been looking at another 3D package other than my beloved (perhaps that should be in the past tense) Bryce. We'll also take a look at synchronizing the Vue camera to cameras from other software. Projections and camera mapping: We'll see how it's possible to drastically reduce animation render times by projecting parts of the scene onto planes. Vue and compositing - We'll take a look at Vue's powerful multi-pass rendering and learn how to take advantage of the various passes by improving a Vue render in a Nuke compositing session. The function Editor - We will dig deep inside Vue’s powerful node-based function editor, and learn how to create elaborate terrains and materials using fractal algorithms and filters.Īnimation - The curve editor, animation render settings, wind and breeze, ventilators, animating clouds, water waves, tracking and linking. We will also create water material and explore transparency, refraction and murkiness. Materials and natural distribution - We will create textured and procedural materials and layer them using natural distribution rules. Terrains - We’ll go through the different terrain types (height field, procedural, large scale and infinite), and explore terrain hand-sculpting and erosion techniques, as well as basic function editing, and spherical terrains. We will devote most of the lesson to the Spectral atmosphere and volumetric clouds, and will also take a short look at the standard model and environment mapping. We’ll explore the different approaches to setting up EcoSystems, from free-hand painting to defining distribution and interaction rules.Ītmosphere and lighting - Mastering the atmospheric models in Vue is essential for achieving good looking renders. Plants and EcoSystems - After examining Vue’s SolidGrowth plants, We’ll take a close look at Vue’s fantastic distribution system. Then we’ll build a simple scene, which will allow us to get familiar with the interface and various editors. Introduction to Vue - We will look at some of the strengths and unique capabilities of Vue. He has written Vue tutorials for various publications, including 3D World Magazine (for which he is a regular contributor), and has created many sample scenes for Vue xStream, Infinite and Esprit. Dinur is a true Vue veteran, and has been using the app extensively since version 2 in numerous projects. He has created visual effects for films such as "Clash of the Titans", "Salt", "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", "Surrogates", "Terminator Salvation", "Star Trek", "Iron Man" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Keeping in mind the needs of matte painting and compositing, we will also explore Vue's extensive multi-pass rendering, matte generation and export options.ĭinur has worked for several years a senior digital artist at ILM Singapore and at Framestore NY, and is currently compositing supervisor at Brainstorm Digital NYC. We will first cover all of the main aspects of Vue - the different atmospheric models, polygonal and procedural terrains, EcoSystems, animation, materials and plant editing, and then dig deeper into more complex areas such as fractal functions and multi-layered shaders. Vue has gained a prominent position in the industry as a tool for creating rich and detailed 3D natural scenery and there's an ever-growing demand for competent Vue artists. From creating assets for matte painting and compositing to animating and rendering complete 3D scenes. Taught by Eran Dinur, this course offers a comprehensive approach to learning Vue, with an emphasis on workflow and techniques needed for effectively using it in various professional production scenarios.

Unfortunately, as mentioned above, it is no longer available in newer versions of the operating system like Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. In 1995, the company licensed a low-end version of this program to Microsoft for use in their set of communication utilities, and it was bundled with Windows 95 through Windows XP. This was the first software product from Hilgraeve, which was ported over to IBM PCs and compatible systems in 1985. Or rather, its family of terminal emulation software better known as HyperACCESS. And surprisingly, it actually still sells this program right now. It originally took shape at a company that goes by as Hilgraeve. It definitely was a fan favorite! A company called HilgraeveĮven though this was a mainstay program for many in Windows 98 and Windows XP, HyperTerminal was not actually developed by Microsoft. The program also allowed for the control of all your serial devices using the Ethernet or Modem. It helped users in communicating with COM ports, remote computers, Telnet websites, BBS chat systems, or even simply perform TCP/IP operations. Now, HyperTerminal, was basically an application that simplified this communication, all under one roof. And, in fact, before the advent of Windows and the popularity of visual user interfaces, this was the dominant form of connecting and retrieving information on different systems. You may have seen classic movies and TV shows use this terminal technology to get things done. In the simplest of terms, think of it as a terminal emulation software - in that it allowed your computer to communicate with other systems that allowed text-based access for either display of information or transfer of files. Things may a get a little technical here for those of you out of the loop that have never used terminal to access other systems and network, but we shall simplify wherever possible. Let’s take a trip down the memory lane and see what HyperTerminal offered, and how you can get the program running on your shiny new Window 10 computer.īefore we move onto the juicy bits, let’s spend a minute to clear what HyperTerminal actually was, and what it helped users do. But nothing beats the original - not when there is a way to get it working on new versions of Windows without much hassle. Yes, there is a selection of alternatives available now that fill in this gap. However, like all good things, the HyperTerminal journey came to an end with Windows XP, which was the last version of the OS that bundled the program. To this end, our classification was initially designed to be used adjunctively with the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) classification. The contribution of imaging may be especially germane to those lymph nodes that are situated deeply and that, by their very location, are difficult, if not impossible, to palpate. We believe that the anatomical precision offered by current-day computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can resolve some of these issues and can contribute significantly to an improved classification of nodal disease. However, when these varied classifications are reviewed and compared, there remain several areas that either are not precisely defined or are defined so variously that the present systems preclude precise classification of nodal disease in these areas and potentially could lead to confusion. Since then, a number of clinically and radiologically based classifications have been proposed that use such nonanatomical terminology. In 1981, Shah et al 5 suggested that the anatomically based terminology should be replaced with a simpler "level"-based system. Many of the landmarks used in these classifications had their origin in the superficial triangles of the neck, areas that were easily accessible to palpation and referred to by familiar names. His work followed an earlier classification by Trotter 3 in 1930, which was based on an even earlier work by Poirer and Charpy 4 in 1909. However, when it comes to nodal classifications, such well-accepted criteria are often difficult to identify.įor nearly 4 decades, the most commonly used classification for the cervical lymph nodes was that developed by Rouviere 2 in 1938. The definition of a classification is "a systematic arrangement in groups or categories according to established criteria." 1 This definition implies that there are, in fact, established criteria. It is our desire that the best attributes of imaging, combined with those of the physical assessment, can result in a better and more consistently reproducible nodal staging than is possible by either approach alone. The imaging-based nodal classification proposed herein has been developed in consultation with surgeons interested in such classifications in the hope that the resultant classification would find ready acceptance by both clinicians and imagers. Because the majority of patients with head and neck malignancies presently undergo sectional imaging prior to treatment planning, we felt a need to integrate anatomical imaging criteria with the 2 most commonly used nodal classifications: those of the American Joint Committee on Cancer and those of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. In the past 2 decades, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have offered progressively more refined anatomical precision, reproducibility, and visualization of deep, clinically inaccessible structures. These classifications do not agree precisely and exhibit sufficient variation that competent physicians could arrive at slightly different staging of the patient's nodal disease. Some classifications have used surgical landmarks, others physical assessment criteria. Over the past 18 years, numerous classifications have been proposed to distinguish among the diverse nodal levels. Shared Decision Making and Communication. Typing after all is about repetitive practice. I haven’t tried every single typing program out there but I’m sure that they all get a little boring. I adore the Typesy program and so does my son (well some of it). Now there’s a VERY important computer skill. Cartoons, bikes, robots and computers all have people working behind the scenes. They don’t have to actually “create” anything but we want them to have a real understanding that there’s hard working people behind it. It’s important to us to teach our kids to be technology creators not consumers. Haven’t heard of them? THEY ARE AWESOME books that teach kids about computers (and coding) in a hands on (off screen) way! My son even built a paper computer with all the components (CPU, GPU, RAM etc…) I wanted him to understand how hardware and software come together to move the cursor or type something to the screen. I was SUPER excited to try Typesy out! I also wanted to teach my son, who is currently obsessed with The Wild Robot (amazing books, you should read them… enough said), about computers in general.Ĭomputers are not some magic box - they are programed by people just like the “makers” in The Wild Robot. They will know which bottom feeder fish are compatible with other fish in a community tank. If you need help finding peaceful community fish to add to your freshwater fish tanks, ask the experts at your aquarium trade store. While your home tank may only be a 20 or 40 gallon tank, you can still find many species of bottom feeder fish that will get along with your other species. In zoos and retail store freshwater aquariums, it is not unusual to find catfish, crappie, bluegill, and bass cohabitating in a community tank. The size of your fish tank will determine what species of fish you can keep. If you have a larger saltwater tank, you can even add bottom feeder fish like rays and eels to your underwater community. Rosy barbs are very peaceful fish that travel in small schools (6-8 in a 40 gallon tank with other fish) and get along well with most tank mates. Cherry shrimp are bright and colorful and add a burst of color to your tank. The zebra loach has attractive patterning and feeds on algae and debris. There are other fish who are bottom feeders that are also attractive and beautiful. Siamese algae eaters, otocinclus catfish, and cory catfish are great bottom feeders for your fish tank and add color and life to your aquarium hobby tank. Most people think of the bristlenose pleco, or vacuum cleaner fish, when looking for a cleaner fish, but there are many other fish species that help maintain a healthy aquatic environment in a freshwater aquarium. That is how they earned the nickname algae eater. Most bottom feeder fish would rather eat food leftovers or algae blooms than fish feed. Not only do they clean the bottom of the tank, but they clean up uneaten food that might affect pH balance and water quality. In a freshwater aquarium, algae eaters are essential to maintaining a healthy environment. Not only do bottom feeders eat fish poop, but they eat algae from the sides and bottom of the tank. Bottom dwellers who live in aquariums are valuable in keeping the tank clean. Bottom feeder fish can be found in natural freshwater settings and in saltwater natural settings.Īdditionally, small fish species have long been used in freshwater aquariums and saltwater aquariums. Some fish species, like catfish, feed from the bottom, but also spend time at different levels. Bottom feeder fish are those that eat from the bottom third of the water column, but not necessarily those that spend all their time at the bottom of the water column.
